This year Young Scientist will reward students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who carry out scientific investigations well with cash and other prizes. As well as a letters of feedback to each student on their entry, glossy Certificates of Excellence, High Achievement and Commendation will be provided. Certificates of Participation will be issued for encouragement to the students of schools that register with the program at school level. Some of the older entrants will be eligible for the grand awards, Young Scientist of the Year and, if funds are available, participation at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), where students from NSW have competed and enjoyed outstanding success for the last decade. Prizes of considerable value will also be given by our sponsors. Entrants to Young Scientist will be eligible for the BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards.

The STANSW Young Scientist Awards is a major project of the Science Teachers’ Association of New South Wales (STANSW).

Young Scientist offers students from Kindergarten to Year 12 worthwhile incentives to carry out scientific investigations. It provides teachers with valuable resources and professional learning opportunities.

Students in NSW schools carry out scientific investigations as part of their school’s science program in line with the NSW Board of Studies K-12 science syllabuses. The Young Scientist categories and judging rubrics are designed to support the investigation elements of these syllabuses.

STANSW will forward the major winning entries of the Young Scientist Awards to the BHP Billiton Science Awards.
