Meet the Markers of the '2020 HSC Science Examinations'

24 - 26 March 2021

The new HSC, one year on – What have we learnt?

Attending MTM presents a unique opportunity to hear from HSC Markers giving their advice and strategies arising from marking the HSC science examinations. These invaluable insights help guide our teaching and improve teaching practice to positively impact on our students’ learning.

Hear from markers on:

• What students did well and found straightforward
• Which questions and concepts caused students difficulties and why, with syllabus references
• What the better responses contained (in general terms)
• Insights and analysis of publicly available statistics
• Common errors and misconceptions

Network and share with teachers from across the State and all schools sectors at the accompanying reflective forum sessions provided in each of the subject areas.

The team from NESA is also running a workshop on each day on how to analyse your school's HSC results to identify areas of the syllabus where improvements can be made in teaching and learning and learn more about minimum standards and moderation.

As a result of participating in the Meet the Markers professional learning activity, teachers will:

• Be more adept at assisting their students to interpret and answer questions, and thus better prepare students for the VALID test and HSC Trials and Examinations.
• Increase their understanding of the HSC marking process and procedures as well as refine their skills in constructing and marking school-based assessment tasks in line with HSC procedures.
