KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Prof. Joanne Jamie, Macquarie University: Indigenous-Academic Collaborations Enabling Impactful Learning and Teaching

Prof. Joanne Jamie is a Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemist at the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University. Her latest research is focused on collaborative partnerships with Indigenous communities for documentation, biological screening and isolation of bioactive compounds from ‘bush’ foods and medicines. Joanne and Yaegl Aboriginal Elders have co-authored journal articles and developed a bush medicine handbook for use in education and cultural tourism, as well as a Cultural Immersion Program – The River of Learning. Together with the Elders, school staff and fellow STEM academics, Joanne has established the National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP, nisep.org.au), which empowers Indigenous secondary school students as STEM leaders.

Frank Milic, Sydney Catholic Schools: An Overview of the new 7-10 Science Syllabus

Frank Milic has over 17 years' experience as a Head Science Teacher in secondary schools. He is on the committee of the STANSW Head Teachers Network and is currently an education officer (Teaching & Learning Coach) with Sydney Catholic Schools. He will present a comprehensive overview of the NEW 7-10 Science Syllabus and answer key questions teachers and middle leaders have regarding the planning and implementation of the new syllabus from 2026 onwards.

A/Prof Ángel López-Sánchez, Macquarie University: Discover MQ Observatory 

Associate Professor, Ángel López-Sánchez is an astrophysicist at School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences Astrophysics and Space Technologies Research Centre, Macquarie University. He will showcase the opportunities at MQ Observatory for Developing research astronomy projects in NSW schools, from astrophotography to basic astronomy exercises.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Primary School Science Teachers: The Conference features hands-on mini workshops sharing practical science activities to inspire and engage young students. Teachers will also receive takeaway toolkits for implementation in classrooms.

Hands-on Pracs: Practical activities and engaging approaches to implement in classrooms
New 7-10 New Syllabus: A full, 2-day stream specifically aimed at supporting science teachers to navigate the new 710 Science Syllabus
Early career teachers: Approaches and programs for teachers who are starting out in their career as well as training guidance
Experienced teachers: More advanced discussions for experienced teaching professionals
