Stage 6 Conference: 28 October 2024 at the Maritime Museum

Fresh Perspectives on Stage 6 Science: Share Your Expertise and shape the future of Science Education!

This October STANSW will be hosting the Stage 6 Conference at The Maritime Museum. Themed "Revitalise and Reimagine: Fresh Perspectives on Stage 6 Science", subject streams will cover all the senior sciences with subject workshops in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Environmental Science, Investigating Science and Science Extension.  The day will cater for experienced teachers and refresher sessions as well as those new to the subjects and getting back to basics, how to set up courses, assessment schedules and more.
 
We're seeking passionate classroom teachers and educators to submit workshop proposals for this conference. This is your chance to share your knowledge, experience, and innovative ideas with colleagues from across the region. We're looking for workshops that address the event theme and following:

- Innovative Teaching Strategies
- Deep Dives into Complex Topics
- Supporting New & Early Career Teachers
- Assessment in Science
- Subject-Specific Sessions
- Culturally Responsive Teaching

Our aim is to support participants in:

  • Enhancing their comprehension of diverse assessment strategies, including informal, formal, diagnostic, formative, and summative approaches for Stage 6.
  • Cultivating skills in analysing student assessment data to accurately evaluate their understanding of the subject and content.
  • Developing intervention techniques and refining teaching practices based on student assessment data.
  • Expanding knowledge on diverse methods to manage and assess depth studies

Selection Criteria

Workshop proposals will be reviewed and selected based on the following criteria:
Relevance to conference themes and target audience
Clarity and coherence of the proposal
Originality and innovative approaches
Potential impact on participants' teaching practices.
