The Science Teachers Association of New South Wales (STANSW) is pleased to announce the 2026 STANSW Council. This dedicated team of teachers and members will continue to lead STANSW initiatives, designed to empower teachers and enhance science education across NSW.

  • Clare Qiu: Treasurer
  • Ken Baumgarner
  • Annie Martin
  • Lesley Gough
  • Genevieve Firmer
  • Catriona Chaikin
  • Mora Soliman
  • Andrew Eaton

As we welcome the new Council, we take this opportunity to express our gratitude to our outgoing Councilors for their outstanding contributions and commitment to the science education community.

2025 President, Amy Ayres, has been an inspiring leader, guiding STANSW through significant initiatives that strengthened our voice in science education and expanded opportunities for teachers. She has been a passionate driver of our recently developed Critical Thinking Network and collaboration with the University of Berkeley. This networking group allows teachers to get together and explore real-life scenarios with students to develop critical scientific thinking, with the upcoming session delving into scientific uncertainty and problematic reasoning.

Long-standing Councilor, Julie Rogers, has generously shared her expertise and passion, contributing to professional learning courses and important projects, supporting the professional growth of teachers across the state for years.

We look forward to an exciting future under the guidance of our 2026 Council and to continuing our shared mission of empowering science educators across New South Wales.
