Message from the Association
We are at that time of year where things start to move at breakneck speed for teachers, I'm sure many of you are busy with report writing, preparing for end year events and presentations and for those with HSC students supporting them through their final year exams. I hope you are all navigating this busy time ok.
In the last few months we have been setting our Strategic Plan to guide us into the future. This has involved reflecting on who we are as an Association and articulating what's important to us. Coming together as a community of science educators is paramount in our thinking. It speaks to the sense of belonging, of being supported, of having needs heard and met and advocated for. That's what we see us being here for - we are your Association here for you.
We have a strong and cohesive Council with visionary leadership, committed Organising Committees and Convenors of Professional Learning projects who are ready to lead us into 2022 and beyond. I recognise the professionalism and commitment of these educators who volunteer their time to ensure that we are both 'for teachers by teachers' and that we deliver best practice professional learning and high quality support.
A little news from me - As we wrap up the year I will be moving on from the Association having accepted the position of Director of Campaigns with the Climate Council. I have had a wonderful time in my role as Executive Officer for the Association and believe strongly in the work we do here supporting you all. The friendships and guidance I have received during my time has been invaluable to me and the Association. In accepting the position with the Climate Council, I will be returning to work in advocacy and campaigns that I was involved in before coming to the Science Teachers Association and, with the close link between climate science and what we do here, I'm sure I'll never be far.
We are therefore recruiting for a new Executive Officer. Council are looking for an outstanding leader ready to work with them and our broader community through this next stage of growth for the Association. Further details regarding the position and access to the job description is available here.
Our other big news is that next week our 2021 Young Scientist Awards will be announced. The presentations will be premiered on the Young Scientist Facebook page, we look forward to being able to recognise and congratulate all students who submitted their investigation projects to this years awards program and to the winners of all our categories K through to year 12. Hope to see many of you online for these announcements that will be interspersed with some insightful messages from Tall Poppies and a key note address from Jodi Rowley.
All the best for wrapping up this year with your students.
Yours in Science
Jane Powles
Executive Officer
