Course Overview
The Biology 11–12 Syllabus (2025) will introduce significant changes to the structure, content and assessment of Stage 6 Biology. These changes will include a reorganisation of content from eight modules into seven focus areas, revised Working Scientifically outcomes and content, changes to depth study requirements, and strengthened integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.
This workshop will support Biology teachers to understand the key differences between the 2017 and 2025 syllabuses and consider what these changes will mean for programming, teaching, assessment and resource development.
Participants will explore:
- key structural and content changes, including new, removed and relocated Biology content
- changes to Working Scientifically and assessment requirements
- revised depth study requirements and opportunities within Year 11
- the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across the syllabus
- approaches to reviewing and adapting existing teaching programs
- NESA support materials and other resources that can assist with planning and resource development.
The workshop will provide practical guidance for teachers preparing to transition to the new syllabus. Participants will consider how existing programs and resources can be adapted to meet the new requirements and will explore approaches to developing syllabus aligned teaching and learning activities.
This workshop is suitable for experienced Stage 6 Biology teachers, faculty leaders and teachers preparing to teach senior Biology. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the new syllabus and practical strategies to support planning, programming and resource development.
