Course Overview:
The new NESA Chemistry 11–12 Syllabus introduces significant changes to the structure, content, assessment and delivery of Stage 6 Chemistry in NSW, with implementation beginning in 2028 and the first HSC examination in 2029.
For Chemistry teachers, the challenge is not simply understanding what has changed, but deciding what those changes mean for programming, teaching, assessment and resource development.
This practical three hour workshop will support teachers to navigate the new syllabus and begin planning for implementation with greater clarity and confidence. Participants will examine key differences between the 2017 and 2025 syllabuses and consider the implications for teaching Chemistry across Years 11 and 12.
The workshop will support you to:
- understand key structural, content and assessment changes in the 2025 syllabus
- consider how Working Scientifically, depth studies and new or revised content can be incorporated into Stage 6 Chemistry
- explore approaches to programming and adapting existing teaching programs
- identify useful NESA support materials and other resources for syllabus implementation
- begin making informed decisions about teaching, learning and assessment for the new course.
Designed for experienced Stage 6 Chemistry teachers, faculty leaders and teachers new to senior Chemistry, this workshop offers a practical starting point for preparing for the 2025 syllabus.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the new requirements and practical directions for beginning their own programming and resource development.
