ConASTA 73 – Brisbane

7 July @ 9:50 am - 10 July @ 3:30 pm AEST

Dates: July 7 to July 10, 2026
Venue: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, South Brisbane

ConASTA 73, to be held 7–10 July 2026 in Brisbane (Meanjin), on the lands of the Turrbal and Jagera (Juggerra) peoples. Hosted by the Science Teachers Association of Queensland (STAQ), ConASTA 73 brings together science teachers and laboratory technicians from across Australia to connect, learn, and reflect at a moment when science—and the world it seeks to understand—is changing faster than ever.

Under the theme Science in an Era of Rapid Change: Supporting Sustainability, the conference will explore how science education can respond thoughtfully and effectively to accelerating environmental, technological, and social change. From climate science and biodiversity to emerging technologies, curriculum reform, and laboratory practice, ConASTA 73 will focus on how educators and technicians can support students to think critically, act ethically, and engage with science as a tool for sustaining both people and planet.

The program will feature keynote speakers, hands-on workshops, symposia, and practical sessions designed to support classroom teaching and laboratory work across primary and secondary contexts. Strong emphasis will be placed on collaboration, sharing of practice, and the integration of sustainability perspectives—including Indigenous knowledges, place-based learning, and long-term ways of thinking about science and stewardship.

Set in subtropical Brisbane in mid-winter, ConASTA 73 offers not only rich professional learning, but also space to reconnect with colleagues, renew purpose, and imagine the role of science education in shaping a sustainable future.
