Join us for 4 twilight interactive sessions that will explore effective strategies for shaping and leading learning experiences in the classroom.
Session 1: 9th September, 4.30 – 6.30pm
Leading Learning (Curriculum, Pedagogy), presented by Glenn Halpin.
Master the art of science instruction through exploring explicit teaching, enquiry-based learning and managing a team through syllabus updates.
This session will cover:
- Dialogue & Debate: Engage in active discussions about the merits and limitations of each pedagogical approach.
- Informed Decision-Making: Gain tools to select the most suitable teaching strategy for diverse learning objectives and contexts.
- Best Practices Unveiled: Uncover evidence-based practices to optimize both explicit instruction and enquiry-based activities.
- Empowered Leadership: Develop expertise in guiding your team to implement effective pedagogies in science classrooms
- New Syllabus: Planning for and implementing new syllabus.
Session 2: 17th September, 4.30 – 6.30pm
Assessment, Developing your Personal and Team Philosophy, presented by Chiquita Rugg.
Empowering science leaders to cultivate thriving team dynamics for sustainable well-being and success.
This session covers:
- Assessment Strategies: Develop best practice assessment strategies within your team.
- Building Cohesive Teams: Explore effective team-building techniques to foster collaboration and shared goals.
- Enhancing Wellbeing: Discover tools and practices to cultivate resilience, improve relationships, and maintain sustainable energy within your leadership role.
Session 3: 25th September, 4.30 – 6.30pm
Safety and Student Behaviour, presented by Rachel Thomson
As a leader, how do you up-skill your teachers to ensure their practices are safe? Ensuring a safe and supportive science learning environment through effective chemical management, lab design principles, risk assessments, and access to expert resources.
This session will cover:
- Mastering Chemical Safety: Navigate Work Health and Safety regulations for chemical storage and understand best practices for safe handling and administration. Set up processes and procedures.
- Optimizing Lab Design: Explore principles of safe and efficient lab layouts, fostering a secure and positive learning atmosphere.
- Risk Assessment Expertise: Learn to conduct comprehensive risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and implementing controls to mitigate them.
- Fostering Safe Student Behaviour: How to keep students safe in the lab and what to do to manage non-compliance
- Foundational Lab Skills: Running safety PL for your staff; help staff gain confidence in conducting laboratory activities by understanding crucial lab skills, safety procedures, equipment use, and educational objectives in the lab setting.
Session 4: 15th October, 4.30 – 6.30pm
Managing Conflict and Staff Wellbeing, presented by Julie Rogers.
Mastering conflict resolution and staff management for effective science leadership.
This session will cover:
- Navigate Conflict: Equip leaders to identify conflict causes, apply restorative practices for resolution, and turn conflict into positive action.
- Lead with Inspiration: Learn strategies to motivate and inspire teachers, navigate staff dynamics, and build a unified, enthusiastic team.
- Cultivate Collaboration: Gain skills for fostering strong relationships with staff and parents, fostering cooperation and preventing conflict.
You’ll leave with fresh insights to reflect on and apply in your practice.
