Call for Abstracts: STANSW 2026 Professional Development Events

The Science Teachers Association of NSW (STANSW) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing science education and supporting the professional growth of science teachers across the state. 

For our 75th anniversary year in 2026, we are planning a series of key professional learning events that will celebrate our history, acknowledge the dedication of our volunteer teachers, and inspire the next generation of educators. 

We warmly invite teachers, educators and science professionals to share their expertise at our upcoming events.

Invitation to Present at the STANSW 2026 Conference: The Future of Science Education 

Present a workshop at our STANSW 2026 Conference: Future of Science Education, a major event celebrating 75 years of supporting and elevating the NSW science teaching community. We are bringing together educators from all sectors and career stages for this pivotal, future-focused professional learning experience.

 
STANSW Secondary Conference: The Future of Science Education
Friday 12 – Saturday 13 June at Macquarie University.
 
This conference is structured to be the launchpad and support system for navigating curriculum changes, offering streams for both Junior and Senior Secondary Science implementation, covering:
  • New 7–10 Science Syllabus implementation
  • New Stage 6 Syllabuses and programming
  • Development of practical resources, Working Scientifically skills, data science capabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledges and future-focused pedagogies.

Invitation to Present at the STANSW 2026 Virtual Forum: Excelling Science Across NSW

Be part of our Virtual Forum, an accessible and inspiring series of virtual workshops, held online over four days, allowing teachers of all stages to up-skill in various areas of science teaching. We’re particularly keen to hear from Primary and Secondary Science teachers from regional areas, bringing a diverse cross-section of content and areas of expertise. If you have some impactful science lessons, teaching strategies or tools you’d like to share, get in touch!

STANSW K-12 Virtual Forum: Excelling Science Across NSW
17 Sept + 8, 15 and 19 October, Online
 
The Virtual Forum aims to provide accessible, high-quality professional learning to teachers looking to enhance science lessons, with particular focus on supporting teachers in regional and rural NSW.  

Secondary Science 

  • Depth Studies 
  • Indigenous perspectives in science 
  • Differentiation in science classrooms 
  • Data science 

Primary Science 

  • Stage-based classroom practice (three stage-aligned sessions) 
  • Supporting early-career primary science teachers 

Workshops should be engaging, practice-focused, and designed to support teachers across diverse school contexts.
